Canadian–American Symposium on Cross-border Insolvency Law

February 11, 2005

Marriott Eaton Center
Toronto, Ontario

Co-hosted by the
Annual Review of Insolvency Law,
American Bankruptcy Institute and
University of Western Ontario

The Canadian and U.S. economies are interdependent, with $1 billion a day in goods, services and investments crossing the border. Both economies are in a state of flux. Many industries, including steel, airline, automotive and telecommunications, are being completely restructured on both sides of the border. An understanding of the insolvency issues in cross-border cases is essential in order to protect your clients’ financial interests. This program will draw together leading insolvency lawyers, insolvency practitioners, bankers, turnaround managers and judges from both Canada and the United States to discuss current issues in insolvency law.

Overview

This symposium is a cooperative venture of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Annual Review of Insolvency Law and the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Law with the lead sponsorship of ThorntonGroutFinnigan LLP.

The symposium is supported by the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, The Insolvency Institute of Canada and the Office of the Superintendent in Bankruptcy, the Canada–United States Law Institute, the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law and the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.

The conference will feature a Roundtable Discussion (“The Bear Pit Session”) on workouts on the CCAA and chapter 11, as well as a wrap-up session dedicated to current developments in insolvency law.
