Seventh Annual New York City Bankruptcy Conference To Be Held May 9

March 16, 2005, Alexandria, Va. — The American Bankruptcy Institute’s (ABI) Seventh Annual New York City Bankruptcy Conference will be held on May 9, at the Millennium Hotel Broadway in New York.  Bringing together a faculty of S.D.N.Y. and E.D.N.Y. bankruptcy judges and practitioners from the top national insolvency firms, this day-long educational forum will appeal to both experienced and new practitioners. It allows practitioners to earn up to 6.25 hours of CLE/CPE credit, including 1.25 hours of ethics.

Mitchell E. Drucker of CIT Business Credit Inc., Robert J. Rosenberg of Latham & Watkins LLP and Judge Stuart M. Bernstein (S.D.N.Y.) will serve as program chairs.

Offered again is the stand-alone primer course “Bankruptcy Fundamentals: Nuts and Bolts for Young Practitioners,” held on Friday, May 6 preceding the conference at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. At this special program, an outstanding faculty of judges, academics and practitioners will explain the fundamentals of bankruptcy. This program is chaired by Ira L. Herman of Bryan Cave LLP.

This year’s program features the annual opening judges’ panel, featuring five Bankruptcy Judges of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Trustee for Region 2. A special luncheon presentation features Prof. Lynn LoPucki, who will respond to critics of his new book, Courting Failure: How Competition for Big Cases is Corrupting the Bankruptcy Courts.  

Chair Scott L. Hazan of Otterbourg, Steindler, Houston & Rosen PC will be joined by panelists Andrew Kress of Kaye Scholer LLP, Deirdre A. Martini, the U.S. Trustee for Region 2,   and Joseph Samet of Baker & McKenzie LLP in the discussion How Do You Put an Insolvent Chapter 11 Debtor to Rest? What Are Your Alternatives if You Cannot Confirm a “Normal” Plan?

Michael H. Kalb of Sun Capital Partners Inc., Thomas Moers of Mayer, Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP and Keith J. Shapiro, Greenberg Traurig LLP will serve as panelists for Developments in Distressed M&A. David M. Powlen of Mesirow Financial Consulting LLC will moderate the panel.

Alan D. Holtz of Giuliani Capital Advisors LLC will serve as chair in the discussion Hey, That’s My Property! He will be joined by Michael E. Foreman of Proskauer Rose LLP, Marshall Huebner of Davis, Polk and Wardwell and Kenneth Pasquale of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP.

The panel   Valuation in All of Its Guises will be chaired by Martin James M. Lukenda of Huron Consulting Group. James D. Decker of Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin, Steven J. Reisman of Curtis, Mallet–Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP and Glenn E. Siegel, Dechert LLP will serve as panelists.

Co-chairs Alec P. Ostrow of Stevens & Lee PC and Mark B. Brenner will be joined by panelists Ira L. Herman of Bryan Cave LLP and Greg M. Zipes of the Office of the U.S. Trustee, Region 2 for What Is Good Faith in Bankruptcy?
