ABI Releases Book On Professional Compensation

March 29, 2005, Alexandria, Va. —ABI has just released a new book “Getting Paid: Retention and Compensation in Bankruptcy Cases: A Guide for Non-attorney Professionals.” The Guide details the various aspects of the professional retention process of 11 U.S.C. §§327 and 1103 and the fee payment procedures of 11 U.S.C. §§330 and 331. The handbook was written by six experienced bankruptcy practitioners with the non-attorney professional and their counsel in mind.

“Increasingly, the complexities of business operations of debtors require more and more non-attorney professionals to be retained by debtors-in-possession, trustees and committees. While this has opened numerous opportunities, it also requires professionals to strictly comply with the general retention and compensation provisions of the Bankruptcy Code as well as the specific requirements of a particular bankruptcy case,” said lead editor Chip Bowles of Greenebaum Doll & McDonald PLLC.

The Guide provides practical advice on a range of issues, from the question of who is a professional to the drafting of an engagement agreement to the filing and defense of interim and final fee applications. An extensive appendix provides helpful model forms and sample orders for each step of the complex process. Other contributing writers included Mark P.
