ABI’s Litigation Skills Symposium Set for
May 23–26

April 25, 2005, Alexandria, Va. — ABI’s Litigation Skills Symposium will be held May 23–26 at Tulane Law School in New Orleans, La. The four-day symposium offers new and intermediate level insolvency practitioners a rare opportunity to gain critical skills in a unique learn-by-doing environment.

The expert faculty, including Rudy Cerone of McGlinchey Stafford PLLC (New Orleans, La.), Dennis Connolly of Alston & Bird LLP (Atlanta), Dillon Jackson of Foster Pepper & Shefelman PLLC (Seattle), Reginald Jackson of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP (Columbus, Ohio), Mark Maloney of King & Spalding LLP (Atlanta), Christian Onsager of Onsager & Staelin LLC (Denver), Michael Richman of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP (New York), Tom Salerno of Squire Sanders & Dempsey LLP (Phoenix), Brian Shaw of Shaw Gussis Fishman Glantz Wolfson & Towbin LLC (Chicago), Evan Slavitt of Bodoff & Slavitt LLP (Boston), R. Scott Williams of Haskell Slaughter Young & Rediker LLC (Birmingham, Ala.), Deborah Williamson of Cox Smith Matthews Inc. (San Antonio) and Lynn Tavenner of Tavenner & Beran PLC (Richmond, Va.), demonstrates specific advocacy skills necessary to be an effective practitioner. Lecture and demonstration topics include introduction to bankruptcy litigation and trial preparation, direct examination and introducing evidence, cross examination of expert and lay witnesses, the art of persuasion/trial techniques, tactics and strategies, and litigation ethics and professional responsibility. Approximately 18.25 hours of CLE/CPE credit are available.

The Symposium concludes with a series of trials in bankruptcy court, where participants put their skills into action. The Symposium is limited to 24 attendees.
