From there, you will take a short walk to the somber setting of the powerful Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Your guide will then walk you to the Korean War Veterans Memorial—a powerful reminder of this important war. Your next stop will be at the National World War II Memorial, which honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S. during World War II, the more than 400,000 who died, and the millions who supported the war effort from home. One of the newer additions to Washington’s prestigious monuments is the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. This first major national memorial erected in honor of a 20th Century president is also the first presidential memorial to honor a first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. End the day with a stop on Pennsylvania Avenue at Lafayette Park to view the White House. The tour cost is $95 per person. Please check the appropriate box on the registration form.

Mt. Vernon Tour: America’s Colonial Past

Friday, April 3, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Travel back in time to the eighteenth century— to the life and times of The Father of our Country, George Washington. Your trip will take you over the Potomac River to Mt. Vernon, America’s most visited historic house. The magnificent estate sits on a grassy, shaded slope overlooking the Potomac River. You will make your way along the garden path to the colorfully decorated mansion, where a docent will describe the significant historic events that took place in each of the rooms. From there, you will tour the outbuildings where much of the day-to-day domestic activity on the plantation took place—from the curing, spinning and laundry houses to the living quarters for overseers and slaves. As you venture down the pathway, you will see the tombs where George and Martha Washington are buried along with other family members. On your journey back to the bus, you will observe the beautiful landscape that has been carefully and meticulously groomed for decades. The tour cost is $150 and includes admission into Mt. Vernon and transportation. Please check the appropriate box on the registration form.
