The Advanced Consumer Bankruptcy Practice Institute is a litigation skills training seminar for consumer bankruptcy attorneys who represent debtors, creditors or trustees. Using a small group model—a student-to-faculty ratio never exceeding 8 to 1—registrants will experience an intensive day-and-a-half of instruction, practice and critique designed to establish competence and confidence in the litigation skills that bankruptcy practitioners need every day: introduction of exhibits; direct examination; cross-examination; impeachment; making and defending objections; the use (or not) of opening statements; and closing arguments.

This is a learn-by-doing program in which registrants perform drills, exercises and a mini-trial in front of a peer group under the supervision of faculty trained by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. Video review and critique are integral to this process.

Registrants must attend all sessions and actively participate in all exercises. Program materials, instructions, a problem and evidence are distributed to registrants in advance and require approximately three hours of preparation.

Attendance at this Institute is strictly limited to 40 attendees. To be eligible, you must register an ACBPI application, which will be provided to you upon paying the registration fee. Please do not delay submitting your application, as Institutes are often over-subscribed. The application deadline is January 9, 2012. To ensure the desired mix of students, applications are reviewed by the faculty, and successful applicants will be informed by e-mail. If your application is not accepted due to space limitations, ABI will refund your payment in full.
