Golf Tournaments

Sponsored by KPMG LLP

The Oconee Course

The Oconee Course, the Rees Jones-designed resort course, presents a golfing challenge unmatched by any other in the nation. Described by many as “mind-game golf,” the course is designed to be a true risk/reward challenge. Noted for its spectacular par threes – featuring multiple tee boxes, drop shots from elevated tees and numerous water hazards – the course offers five holes in which Lake Oconee comes directly into play and four others tendering magnificent lake views. Thursday, July 29, at 1:00 p.m. $170 per golfer includes box lunch, green fees, golf cart and prizes.

Great Waters Course/Dave Pelz Short Game Workshop

Great Waters, the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-signature design, winds through densely wooded evergreen corridors only to open up to nine holes featuring the blue waters of Lake Oconee. Considered one of the best courses in Georgia, second only to Augusta National, Great Waters proves to be one of the most aesthetically inspiring golf courses in the continental United States. The Dave Pelz Scoring Game School’s highly trained instructors offer state-of-the-art training focusing on the short game distance wedges, pitching, chipping, sand play and putting up the majority of shots per round. The school is designed to produce long-term improvement to a player’s game. Friday, July 30, at 1:00 p.m. $155 per golfer includes transportation to/from the resort, the one-hour Dave Pelz Short Game Workshop, box lunch, green fees, golf cart and prizes.

Tennis Tournament

Sponsored by GCG

The hard and clay courts of nearby Reynolds Plantation will be the host of the annual round-robin tennis tournament. $40 fee includes a healthy courtside lunch, drinks, court time, scoring and prizes. Transportation on your own. Friday, July 30, at 1:00 p.m.

Sporting Clays Tournament and Shooting Exhibition

The Gun Club is one of the most scenic and challenging shooting facilities in the Southeast. Enjoy an exhibition shooting clinic by one of The Gun Club’s world-class shooting instructors, then show your own skills on the 10-station sporting clay course. Price includes a warm-up round of trap, guns, shells, eye and ear protection, golf cart and instructor. Thursday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m. $190 per person. Transportation on your own.

Horseback Riding

Enjoy a trail ride through Georgia’s Lake Country as you admire the beautiful hills, streams and forests along your journey. Each well-trained Paint or Quarter horse is individually matched to each rider’s experience-level and interest to enhance your riding experience. For the little buckaroos over the age of four, a variety of training rides are available, designed to introduce them to horseback riding in a fun atmosphere. Friday, July 30, 10:00 a.m. Cost is $135 per person, for 4 hours. Transportation on your own.

Bass Fishing Tournament

Imagine the thrill of the “blast-off” as the tournament begins with you and your partner in a high-performance bass boat and a bass tournament professional as your personal guide. Your heart pounds as you race your fellow competitors to that day’s “Honey Hole,” where the big fish live! Feel your nerves come alive as you battle the “big one” to the boat and the satisfaction when she finally comes into the net to become part of your weigh-in catch. Thursday, July 29, 5:30 p.m. Allow 3 hours for tournament. The $245 price includes boat, fishing tackle, safety equipment and advice by your professional guide.

On-your-own Activities

Activities for every interest abound on the shores of Lake Oconee.

Water Sports

Enjoy a day of water-skiing, tubing or wake-boarding. Climb aboard one of our competition ski boats and show off your water skiing technique. Don’t know how to ski? Not to worry. All of the instructors are AWSA certified and will teach you the basics. Prefer a slower pace? Try canoeing or kayaking along the shores of Lake Oconee.

The Beach

Relax along the shoreline at The Beach at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge. Enjoy sand and sun along the peaceful shores of Georgia’s cleanest and second largest lake.

Lakeside Fishing

For those who choose to stay on dry land, the resort also offers lakeside fishing. Perfect for a first-time fisherman or those with more experience. A fishing pole, bait and tackle will be provided for $25 a day. Please call Ritz Kids at (706) 467-7113 to reserve your fishing poles.

If you love antiquing, Madison and Greensboro are the towns for you. Both are filled with small antique shops carrying a wide array of items from small pieces of jewelry to large pieces of furniture and everything in between. Please stop at the concierge desk for maps and directions.
