Golf Tournaments
The Oconee Course, the Rees Jones-designed resort course, presents a
golfing challenge unmatched by any other in the nation. Described by
many as
“mind-game golf,” the course is designed to be a true
risk/reward
challenge. Noted for its spectacular par threes – featuring
multiple tee boxes,
drop shots from elevated tees and numerous water hazards – the
course
offers five holes in which Lake Oconee comes directly into play and four
others
tendering magnificent lake views. Thursday, July 29, at 1:00 p.m. $170
per
golfer includes box lunch, green fees, golf cart and prizes.
Great Waters Course/Dave Pelz Short Game Workshop
Great Waters, the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus-signature design, winds
through densely
wooded evergreen corridors only to open up to nine holes featuring the
blue
waters of Lake Oconee. Considered one of the best courses in Georgia,
second
only to Augusta National, Great Waters proves to be one of the most
aesthetically
inspiring golf courses in the continental United States. The Dave Pelz
Scoring
Game School’s highly trained instructors offer state-of-the-art
training
focusing on the short game distance wedges, pitching, chipping, sand
play and
putting up the majority of shots per round. The school is designed to
produce
long-term improvement to a player’s game. Friday, July 30, at
1:00 p.m.
$155 per golfer includes transportation to/from the resort, the
one-hour Dave
Pelz Short Game Workshop, box lunch, green fees, golf cart and
prizes.
Tennis Tournament
The hard and clay courts of nearby Reynolds Plantation will be the
host of
the annual round-robin tennis tournament. $40 fee includes a healthy
courtside
lunch, drinks, court time, scoring and prizes. Transportation on your
own. Friday,
July 30, at 1:00 p.m.
Sporting Clays Tournament and Shooting
Exhibition
The Gun Club is one of the most scenic and challenging shooting
facilities
in the Southeast. Enjoy an exhibition shooting clinic by one of The
Gun Club’s
world-class shooting instructors, then show your own skills on the
10-station
sporting clay course. Price includes a warm-up round of trap, guns,
shells,
eye and ear protection, golf cart and instructor. Thursday, July 29 at
1:30
p.m. $190 per person. Transportation on your own.
Horseback Riding
Enjoy a trail ride through Georgia’s Lake Country as you admire
the beautiful
hills, streams and forests along your journey. Each well-trained Paint
or Quarter
horse is individually matched to each rider’s experience-level
and interest
to enhance your riding experience. For the little buckaroos over the
age of
four, a variety of training rides are available, designed to introduce
them
to horseback riding in a fun atmosphere. Friday, July 30, 10:00 a.m.
Cost is
$135 per person, for 4 hours. Transportation on your own.
Bass Fishing Tournament
Imagine the thrill of the “blast-off” as the tournament
begins
with you and your partner in a high-performance bass boat and a bass
tournament
professional as your personal guide. Your heart pounds as you race
your fellow
competitors to that day’s “Honey Hole,” where the
big fish
live! Feel your nerves come alive as you battle the “big
one” to
the boat and the satisfaction when she finally comes into the net to
become
part of your weigh-in catch. Thursday, July 29, 5:30 p.m. Allow 3
hours for
tournament. The $245 price includes boat, fishing tackle, safety
equipment and
advice by your professional guide.
On-your-own Activities
Activities for every interest abound on the shores of Lake
Oconee.
Water Sports
Enjoy a day of water-skiing, tubing or wake-boarding. Climb aboard
one of our
competition ski boats and show off your water skiing technique.
Don’t
know how to ski? Not to worry. All of the instructors are AWSA
certified and
will teach you the basics. Prefer a slower pace? Try canoeing or
kayaking along
the shores of Lake Oconee.
The Beach
Relax along the shoreline at The Beach at The Ritz-Carlton Lodge.
Enjoy sand
and sun along the peaceful shores of Georgia’s cleanest and
second largest
lake.
Lakeside Fishing
For those who choose to stay on dry land, the resort also offers
lakeside fishing.
Perfect for a first-time fisherman or those with more experience. A
fishing
pole, bait and tackle will be provided for $25 a day. Please call Ritz

Antiquing
If you love antiquing, Madison and Greensboro are the towns for you.
Both are
filled with small antique shops carrying a wide array of items from
small pieces
of jewelry to large pieces of furniture and everything in between.
