ABI Leadership Profile: John Penn (Chairman of the Board)
We are pleased that John Penn, ABI’s current Chairman of the Board, agreed to be interviewed for this issue of the Young & New Members Committee newsletter. Mr. Penn graduated from Baylor University Law School in 1982 and is a partner at the law firm of Haynes & Boone LLP in Fort Worth, Texas, where he focuses on business bankruptcy cases.
Focus: the Business Reorganization Committee
In the first of what we hope will be many committee focus columns, we interviewed the co-chairs of ABI’s Business Reorganization Committee—Bradley Sharp from Development Specialists Inc. in Los Angeles and Jo Ann Brighton from Kennedy Covington Lobdell & Hickman LLP, in Charlotte, N.C.—to find out exactly what the Business Reorganization Committee does. One of the largest ABI committees, the Business Reorganization Committee has long had a strong membership base, which helped it become a leader in ABI committee educational program development. In fact, last winter the Business Reorganization Committee joined with the Young New Members Committee to sponsor the highly successful program "You Can Run, But Can You Hide?—Are Third Party Releases Permissible in Reorganization Plans?"
We hope that this introduction to the Business Reorganization Committee, or an introduction to any other committee featured in future "Focus" columns of the YNMC newsletter, helps you identify the area of ABI that is most interesting to you. We encourage you to find your niche and get more involved in ABI!
YNMC Committee News: New Committee Co-Chair & Update on Upcoming ABI Winter Meeting
We are pleased to announce that Katie Pamenter has been appointed a co-chair of the Young & New Members Committee. Katie is an attorney with the firm of Goldberg Kohn Bell Black Rosenbloom & Moritz, Ltd. in Chicago. After graduating from Notre Dame law school, she clerked for the Hon. Robert K. Rodibaugh in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Indiana. Katie now largely represents chapter 11 debtors, liquidating trustees and secured creditors and has been an active member of ABI, the International Women's Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation and the Turnaround Management Association. In her spare time, Katie clearly works on being a true athlete. She has competed in several marathons and triathlons including, most recently, the 2007 Boston Marathon. Please join us in welcoming Katie!
We are looking forward to concluding an exciting year for the Young & New Members Committee. The Winter Leadership Conference, to be held Dec. 6-8, 2007, at the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, Calif. will feature a joint committee presentation with the Real Estate Committee. The presentation is titled "The New American Skyline: Builder/Developer Workouts and Restructurings" and promises to bring together leading experts to discuss a very timely topic for those in our industry. More details will follow soon. We hope you will join us!
